Bruins Blast PC North in Playoffs

Bartlesville High football has won a playoff game for the second straight season, as BHS took care of Putnam City North at Custer Stadium on Friday night in the first round of the 6A-II postseason.

The Bruins blew out the Panthers, 45-14.

The game was never in doubt. After scoring only three points on its first two drives, Bartlesville would score touchdowns on six of its next seven possessions to clench the win.

Junior running back PJ Wallace, of course, would find the end zone first for BHS early in the second quarter.

Wallace would finish with 25 carries for 178 yards, unofficially, with two touchdowns.

After an interception on Bartlesville’s first offensive drive, quarterback Nate Neal was brilliant. He finished 12-14 for 194 yards with two touchdowns. He also had a 35-yard touchdown on the ground.

Damien Niko had more than 100-yards receiving, all in the second half, including this score, which started to put the game out of reach.

The playoff win gives Bartlesville a first-round victory in back-to-back years for the first time since 1987 and 1988.

Bartlesville’s defense held up throughout. After allowing PC North to drive inside the Bruin 15 on the opening drive, BHS would come up with a forced fumble. The Panthers made it 10-7 after a long run from Camerion Jones in the second quarter. BHS would score 35 of the next 42 points to run away with the win.

It was 24-7 at halftime and 31-7 in the third quarter before the Panthers scored in the second half on another Jones run.

BHS would score the final 14-points of the game to get the final 31-point margin.

The Bruins will next travel to Deer Creek to take on the Antlers in the second round of the 6A-II playoffs.
